What is this site for?
Very simply, it allows anyone to setup a virtual bar which can be used by anyone
with an internet connection to buy them a "virtual" drink. In practise
this means that the buyer is depositing money into the bar owners PayPal
account.
Erm... why?
Well, in my capacity as a web developer and businessman I am very often called
upon to do favours or offer support on the telephone for which no easy way of
charging is available. For example, I sometimes spend five minutes fixing
a very simple PC problem for a client and it just isn't worth raising an invoice
or charging them (particularly if they have been customers for a long time).
I (and anyone else in the same situtation) now has an easy answer to the
question "How much do I owe you?". The answer I give is "Buy me a drink at
www.getabeerinfor.me/nickbird".
What do I need?
You need a PayPal account.
Do you get access to my PayPal information?
Absolutely not. We ask for your PayPal email address so that when someone
wants to buy a drink for you we know which PayPal account to open. If you
look at my Virtual Bar you'll
see (if you click a Buy Me This Drink button) that this site just takes you to
PayPal where you can either log in or make a donation using your credit or debit
card.
What if the person buying me a "drink" doesn't have a PayPal account?
No problem. They just click a link on the PayPal screen and use their
credit or debit card.
So it really is just like using the "Request Money" button in my PayPal
account?
Yes - but we thought it would be more fun this way!
What does this cost?
Nothing. It's a free service provided by me. If you like it just
buy me a drink!
